Lotus Spring, Emperor Xian Feng's most tender and beloved flower, is dead. Sticky, angry, confused and ultimately broken hearted, he journeys to the place of their love, Lotus Haven (Lian Xi Le Chu), one tiny corner in the vast complex if Imperial Gardens - Yuan Ming Yuan.
She was one of the beautiful Han girls of the south, forbidden in the Imperial city of the ruling Man race. Because of her admiration for lotus flowers, he renamed her Lotus Spring and kept her in a secluded lotus garden.
But Empress Ci Xi was jealous and found some excuse to place Lotus Spring under house arrest on an isolated island in the middle of that very same lotus garden, preventing the lovers from meeting.
After months of loneliness and despair, Lotus Spring drowned herself in the pond, her body mingling with the lotus roots in the mud, her spirit wafting away on the breeze like their ephemeral scent.
The Yuan Ming Yuan (Garden of Perfect Brigthness) was a Chinese Imperail garden built during the Qing Dynasty.
